NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals win football victory over Southern Idaho


• MEN’S FOOTBALL

JEROME – You always want to get a good result against your rival.

Thursday was that day for North Idaho College.

Freshman Ismael Mane scored in the sixth minute, then Daniel Lehman Jr. added a goal in the 32nd minute for the Cardinals, who face rival College of Southern Idaho in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game at Jerome High Defeated 2:1.

“It was a good game for us,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We’re happy to get the win in a rivalry game like this.”

NIC defeated CSI 3-1 in the first game between the schools on Sept. 12 in Coeur d’Alene.

“We put a lot of pressure on today and had to do a lot of defensive work,” said Williams. “We had some good chances in front of goal. We looked very good and the boys fought hard. I’m proud of the boys for coming out on top there.”

CSI sophomore Guillermo Perez received a red card after spitting on a NIC player in the 72nd minute. According to Williams, Perez will miss at least one game because of the sending off.

NIC, which climbed from 16th to 13th in this week’s NJCAA poll, got three saves from Kael McGowan, a sophomore at Post Falls High.

NIC (12-0-2, 7-0-2 SWAC) travels to Truckee Meadows in Reno, Nevada on Saturday.

CSI is 4-7, 3-6 in its first season.

JEROME – Sophomore Cora Anderson and freshman Zoey Glenn scored first-half goals for the Cardinals in their Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over the Golden Eagles at Jerome High.

Freshman Serena Hand had four saves for NIC (6-5-1, 5-4-0 SWAC), which travels to Truckee Meadows from Reno, Nevada, on Saturday.

CSI is 4-5-2, 3-4-2.

First half – 1, NIC, Cora Anderson (unassisted), 22:01. 2, NIC, Zoey Glenn (Amy Smith), 44:26. Second half – none.

COEUR d’ALENE – The Eagles, ranked seventh in the NJCAA poll this week, defeated the Cardinals in three sets in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game at Christianson Gymnasium.

NIC (7-9, 2-2 SWAC) hosts Snow of Ephraim, Utah on Saturday.

Utah State-Eastern is 15-5, 4-0.
