Stützle starts the new NHL season with a double pack

German national ice hockey player Tim Stützle led the Ottawa Senators to a successful start to the NHL season. Stützle scored two goals in a 3-1 (2-0, 0-1, 1-0) win against the defending champion Florida Panthers. The 22-year-old attacker scored the Senators’ first goal of the season after just under six minutes and into the guests’ empty goal with just over a minute to go to make the final score. World-class goalkeeper Linus Ullmark, who arrived from the Boston Bruins in the summer, also showed a strong performance with 30 saves.

The start of the season was less successful for the three other Germans who were in action that night. Nico Sturm and the San Jose Sharks lost to the St. Louis Blues 4:5 after extra time. The Sharks were leading 4-1 after the second period, and number one draft pick Macklin Celebrini was responsible for the first goal of the season for the worst team of the previous season. Sturm was on the ice for almost ten minutes.

Peterka is missing with a concussion

Moritz Seider, on the other hand, got the most ice time with the Detroit Red Wings as usual, but could not prevent the 3:6 defeat against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 23-year-old defender recorded an assist.

Meanwhile, JJ Peterka missed his Buffalo Sabres’ third game of the season against the Los Angeles Kings. Peterka suffered a concussion at the start of the season in the so-called Global Series against the New Jersey Devils in Prague. Without Peterka, the Sabers also lost their third game of the season, losing 3-1 to the Kings.
