Tomorrow MMA event “Oktagon 62” with Eckerlin, Jungwirth and Coga

On October 12th, Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt will be transformed into an MMA fight arena with 55,000 visitors. Two fighters from Frankfurt are also there.

On Saturday, October 12th, there will be no football rolling across the grass at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt – instead, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) greats will meet with fists, kicks and holds at the first German MMA event in a football stadium. Around 55,000 visitors are expected at “Oktagon 62”. There are well-known fighters there, and two Frankfurters will also fight for victory in the cage that evening: Christian Eckerlin and Max Coga.

While this is Coga’s debut appearance at Oktagon, Eckerlin is already a familiar face at the event. Last May, for example, he won in front of his home audience in the Frankfurt Festhalle. At Deutsche Bank Park he will now fight against Christian Jungwirth for the title “King of GerMMAny”.

Not only do the rivals share a first name, they both also look back on the same sporting past. Both Jungwirth and Eckerlin come from football. Jungwirth was once a goalkeeper in the VfB Stuttgart youth team and even played there under coach Thomas Tuchel.

Eckerlin has made at least twelve appearances in the regional league for Viktoria Aschaffenburg and the second team of Darmstadt 98. Now the two ex-footballers meet at the home of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Max Coga will face Croatian Antun Račić in the cage at his home game on October 12th. Both fighters faced each other eleven years ago, when Coga won the fight. It remains to be seen whether Račić can prevail against double champion Coga in front of the Frankfurt audience.

Another title fight that the organizers are advertising is between Kerim Engizek and the current middleweight octagon champion Patrik Kincl. “As a local fighter, Engizek will be pushed forward by many fans. I expect that he will be over-motivated and have a high fighting tempo,” said Kincl. Engizek, on the other hand, addressed clear words to the spectators: “I can promise all my fans one thing: This fight will make history in Germany!”
