Passenger numbers up 10% and record OTP in September

In September 2024, Icelandair carried 458,000 passengers, an increase of 10% compared to September 2023. During the month, 31% traveled to Iceland, 16% traveled from Iceland, 48% traveled via Iceland and 5% traveled within Iceland. The utilization rate was 83%. On-time performance was 86.6%, an increase of 5.6 percentage points year-on-year and the highest level since 2009. Since the beginning of the year, Icelandair has carried 3.6 million passengers, 8% more than last year.

Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair:
“It is pleasing to see a continued increase in passenger numbers and excellent on-time performance in September. Icelandair has consistently ranked among the most punctual major airlines in Europe this summer, the result of the hard work and dedication of the Icelandair team and a strong focus on operational efficiency.
We are continually expanding our extensive route network with exciting new destinations and strategic partnerships. We will launch Nashville, Tennessee as a new destination in summer 2025 and begin flights to Lisbon, Portugal later this month. In September, we announced our upcoming partnership with Southwest Airlines, becoming their first airline partner. The importance of strong partners for our business cannot be underestimated, as around 10% of total sales come from partnerships and up to 40% of sales come from individual routes. We look forward to further expanding our global partnership network and offering our customers an even greater choice of destinations.”
