Man arrested in connection with deadly Labor Day shooting

After more than a month on the run, the suspect wanted in connection with the gruesome Labor Day murder at a Dorchester hair salon has been arrested.

Authorities arrested Diamond Jose Brito, 32, of Canton, in Mattapan around 7 p.m. Thursday, Boston police said in a news release early Friday morning.

Brito allegedly shot 20-year-old Elijah Ricardo Clunie of Dorchester and was “wanted on multiple Dorchester District Court warrants” for the murder, Boston police said.

The Boston Police Fugitive Unit, the Massachusetts State Police VFAS Unit and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Brito into custody in the area of 10 Temple St. in Mattapan.

Brito is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court today.

A video that went viral on social media showed the graphic aftermath of the murder scene at the Exclusive Barbershop on Washington Street in Dorchester.

The clip, less than a minute long, showed the victim dead in the barber chair and another shot victim lying bleeding on the floor.

BPD responded to the scene at approximately 12:55 p.m. on September 2nd.

The video begins on the street and the person recording the scene walks straight in and points the cell phone camera at the two victims before leaving the store as quickly as he entered. The footage pauses briefly to show a creepy close-up of the dead man in the barber’s chair.

“We have you. “Take a few deep breaths,” a lone officer in the video quickly says as he tends to the injured man and puts on purple surgical gloves. The victim was seen bleeding from the side of his head and talking on his cell phone.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where medical staff pronounced Clunie dead. The second victim, whose identity is not being released, according to BPD, is expected to survive.
