Some sports are dramatically underrepresented in gaming! Curling, for example, or hobby horsing, or the so-called Atherstone Ball Game, in which a small English town barricades all the shops so that the drunken residents can chase a ball for two hours without destroying anything. Fortunately, murder is expressly forbidden in the rules.

Or: boxing, a sport as old as the first hedge that grows across an angry neighbor’s property. Two fighting cocks or hens beat each other until one side has to collect its own teeth from the ground – simple, juicy and really fun to watch. But in gaming: none.

There hasn’t been a serious boxing simulation for 14 (!) years. Former defending champion EA has turned its back on its own Fight Night series to instead serve hip MMA fans with the UFC series, because why only box when you can also kick, grab and throw?

Is classic boxing also doomed to be a sport for old people? No!Developer Steel City Interactive is in sync with publisher Plaion and is launching Undisputed, the first real boxing simulation in many, many years.

Over 70 licensed fighters offers them – from legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard to modern powerhouses like Tyson Fury and Katie Taylor – and you can also expect an extensive character editor including a career mode, as well as online battles and, and, and.

Since 2023, the Klopper has been developed in Steam’s Early Access together with the community, now the full release of version 1.0 is imminent, so I ventured into the training camp and will tell you who this… somewhat idiosyncratic martial arts simulation is suitable for.

Suits you if…

  • … you’re really keen on boxing.
  • … you don’t need much to motivate yourself in a fighter career.
  • … you primarily want to box in multiplayer.

Doesn’t suit you if…

  • …you’ll quickly get bored fighting alone.
  • … you are particularly looking forward to box management.
  • … you can expect creative modes beyond your career.

GameStar editorial director Dimi last got hit in his early school days, but was in the karate club for ten years until he finally gave up on ever learning Hadoken. Be that as it may, he has still been loyal to fighting games since Street Fighter 2 in the early 90s and only bought an arcade stick to get to know a whole new world of fighting games. He has been playing boxing simulations very intensively since UFC 3 at the latest – he misses the Hadoken there too.
