1 dead after argument leads to shooting in Tyler

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A suspect is in custody after police were called to a shooting at a store on Loop 323 in Tyler on Friday and found a person in critical condition.

According to Tyler Police PIO Andy Erbaugh, officers responded to the 3800 block of SSW Loop 323 around 12:15 p.m. following a report of a shooting.

The incident occurred at a business after an argument between several people, Erbaugh said. A man was shot and Tyler Police Sergeant Robert Main said his condition is critical. Police said the incident may have started inside the store but occurred primarily outdoors.

The person shot and injured in this incident died at the scene, according to a family member.

The victim’s brother is the owner of Junior’s Taco restaurant, according to Sgt. Jessica Doughten. She said the suspect was a regular customer.

Doughten said the single shot most likely came from a handgun.

Main said it was an isolated incident that occurred after an argument escalated and not a random shooting.

No names have been released at this time.
