Out of the Box Album of the Week – Leon Bridges – Leon

Leon Bridges takes us on a tour through his past and present with his fourth album “Leon”. The Texas-born artist themes most of the stories surrounding his childhood in Forth Worth with images of bodies of water, intersections, past loves and hanging out at the corner store.

Bridges says, “I’m excited to share these stories about home, about nostalgia, about my upbringing, about where I come from, with all of you.” The album is an invitation to travel with him.

With a primal soulfulness framing his memories, it is a glimpse into his life with Bridges as his tour guide. Full of lush instrumentation and muted piano work, the production is sophisticated while still leaving room for Bridges’ soulful voice.

“Leon” is breathtaking in its honesty and approach to such personal topics. The expansive sound brings the portraits of himself to life and shows a side of an artist that we rarely see.
