Arrested in August in shooting near Galileo Academy that injured teenager

SAN FRANCISCOSan Francisco police arrested a juvenile in the August shooting death of a teenage victim after the victim refused to join a gang, according to her mother.

Police made the arrest around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they spotted the 17-year-old suspect on Ocean Beach. During the arrest, police recovered a loaded gun and other items possibly related to the Aug. 21 shooting near Ghirardelli Square and the Galileo Academy.

The 16-year-old victim was shot in the ankle about 12:30 p.m. a block from his high school. His mother previously told KTVU that other boys invited her son to a park where they pressured him to join their gang. When he refused, they shot him.

The victim is a recent immigrant from Colombia and was bullied by other boys at his school before the shooting, his mother previously said.

The suspect was identified as a San Francisco resident. It is unclear whether they were also students at the Galileo Academy.

He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of assault with a firearm.

KTVU has reached out to SFUSD for comment on the recent arrest and is awaiting a response. The victim’s mother could not immediately be reached for comment.
