Be it a cuddly sack, linen, food, toothbrushes or knitwear: masters and mistresses were able to quickly find everything for their four-legged friends at a trade fair in Rostock. There were also 250 dog breeds on display.

Rostock (dpa/mv) – Over 1,800 dogs, 250 breeds and 70 exhibitors – the International Purebred Dog Exhibition in Rostock has already attracted thousands of visitors on its first day. According to the organizers, the two-day event is the largest dog trade fair in northeast Germany. More than 20,000 visitors are expected by Sunday.

A third of all registered dogs come from abroad, including countries such as Italy, Great Britain, Norway and France. “But there is also a dog from the Ivory Coast,” said project manager Kathrin Schiemann. This year there will again be a film dog casting on both days.

During the exhibition at the Hanseatic Fair, purebred dogs from around 20 countries compete in various categories to win the title “Best in Show”. The dogs are evaluated by judges who take a close look at every detail such as coat texture, body structure and vitality.

This year, for the 21st edition of the fair, the title dog of the exhibition is the miniature schnauzer bitch “Krümel”, who will be two years old in October. “Despite her young age, she has already won 20 titles,” said Schiemann. Among other things, “Krümel” is the 2024 European Champion at the German Canine Association and Swiss Youth Beauty Champion.

The fair is intended to provide dog owners or those who want one with contacts to reputable breeders and provide information about the dogs. There is no torture breeding. All animals come from controlled breeding.
