In this year’s edition of the German Bowl, last year’s winner from Potsdam beat the Dresden Monarchs 27:21 (8:0, 11:7, 0:7, 8:7) on Saturday and crowned a flawless season without a single defeat .

For the club, it is the second championship in the club’s history – after the premiere in 2023.

After the dominant performances in the main round and a record of 12-0 victories, the Royals were favorites going into the final in the stadium on Hafenstrasse in Essen. For Potsdam (only represented in the GFL since 2018) it was the third final appearance after 2022, when they lost to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (27:44).

Dresden was also there for the third time. The sadness after missing the second championship after 2021 was definitely great. “I’m proud that we had the chance to win this game until the end. Potsdam certainly won, but we would have done the same in the opposite case if this last pass had come,” Monarchs President Sören Glöckner was quoted as saying by the Saxon newspaper – with an absolutely possible comeback in the end (four touchdown chances). “We are of course a bit disappointed.” But: “So we have a task for the new season – the title is possible with this team. We are proud of our season.”

Potsdam’s quarterback leaves the future open

Overall, the victorious Potsdam team, led by the highly esteemed quarterback Jaylon Henderson, dominated the final and were deservedly crowned champions. Henderson, who has already scored a famous 82 touchdowns (72 passing, ten rushing) and a throw rate of 78.7 percent, delivered again in the passing and running games – including a 57-yard rush into the end zone .

Loud RBB Henderson’s future in Potsdam is not clear. Afterwards, as the final MVP, he simply said: “I want to enjoy this moment and the next few days. Then the offseason begins and I’ll see what’s best for me. Maybe it’s in Potsdam, but maybe it is.” Wonderful.

The GFL’s record winner with twelve titles is still the New York Lions team from Braunschweig (last win in 2019).
