Important events to look forward to in week three

Archery and Shooting World Cup finals are taking place in the Indian sports calendar this week.

The third week of October has a lot in store for the Indian fans. The most awaited auction of Hockey India League is happening. Teams will try to put together a balanced roster at the auction. Additionally, the Sultan of Johar Cup (U21) will take place in Malaysia later this week, while the badminton caravan will move to Denmark.

Meanwhile, the season finale of the Archery and Shooting World Cup will also take place this week. In cricket, India will play two Test matches against New Zealand, with the first Test match to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. There are also squash, tennis and cycling events. The 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi league begins this week.

Important events follow in the Indian sports calendar in the third week of October

Archery

The archery world cup final is scheduled for this week. The winners of the first four stages of the World Cup and the top four players in the rankings in each category qualify for the Archery World Cup finals. Five Indians have qualified for the event, which will be held in Mexico.

badminton

The badminton caravan is heading to Denmark and after an early exit from the Arctic Open, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen are hoping to be well ahead at the Denmark Open.

The ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup is entering its final week as the group stage is almost over. Only four teams qualify for the group stage and play in the semi-finals. Team India still hopes to reach the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s cricket team hosts New Zealand in a three-match Test series after losing to Bangladesh.

Ride a bike

A total of six cyclists will represent India at the World Track Cycling Championships to be held in Denmark. Ronaldo Singh, Esow Alben, Rojit Singh and David Beckham have qualified for the sprint events, while Harshveer Sekhon and Meenakshi have qualified for the endurance events.

The highest domestic league starts its fifth game week this week. Bengaluru FC currently leads the table with 10 points while Mumbai City, East Bengal and Hyderabad FC are in the bottom three spots.

Ice hockey

The Indian U21 men’s team will take part in the Sultan of Johar Cup 2024. India, who won a bronze medal in the previous edition, will be trying to clinch the title for a record fourth time. Back home, the Hockey India League player auction will take place from October 13 to 15 in New Delhi.

Kabaddi

The 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi League begins this week and two months of Kabaddi action will keep fans on their toes. The opening match will be between Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls.

Shoot

The final of the Shooting World Cup will also take place in Delhi this week. A total of 23 players will take part in the ISSF World Cup finals. Paris Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker, Swapnil Kusale and Sarabjot Singh will not take part in this World Cup.

Squeeze

Joshna Chinappa, Veer Chautani and Ramit Tandon will be in action at the Hamilton, Richardson and US Opens this week. Abhay Sing, Tanvi Khanna and Akanksha Salunkhe will be in action at the 4th Open de Lagord.

tennis

Yuki Bhambri with his partner Albano Olivetti and Sriram Balaji with his partner Guido Andreozzi will take part in the Almaty Open. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig will compete against each other at the Vienna Open.
