EVZ women show the master the master

The Zug women did not allow themselves to be unsettled by their first championship defeat the previous week (1:2 against Fribourg-Gottéron): 6:0 against the ZSC Lions and 8:1 against Langenthal.

The meeting between the EVZ women and the Swiss champions ZSC Lions, which was eagerly awaited in the scene, was tough. It was a competitive party, but only in terms of physical play. Because the result was clear 6-0 on Saturday.

Five goals were scored by the parade line, who received a lot of ice time. This time, however, it was neither Lara Stadler nor Rahel Enzler who collected the most scorer points – but defender Annika Fazokas. The 27-year-old Austrian was extremely present on the war offensive.

And she demonstrated a penchant for risk, as the following two examples demonstrate. When the score was 1-0, she was in danger of losing the target as the last player to a woman from Zurich. After things had gone well again, Fazokas was concerned about rebuilding and was at the origin of defense partner Leonie Kutzer’s goal with a pass into the slot.

And for the fifth goal, despite pressure on the blue line, she dared to dribble, which ended with a stronger pass to goal scorer Stalder. The 6-0 was downright fantastic when Annika Fazokas got out with her solo four opponents and ultimately also goalie Sandra Heim.

Back at the top of the table

The Austrian was also among the goalscorers the next day in the 8-1 win against bottom team Langenthal. The Zug women had a harder time than expected in the Huttwil ice rink and only led 1-0 after the first third (goal: Ivana Wey). After a double strike within 21 seconds shortly after the restart, there were signs of a runaway victory. But in the following minutes the attempts fizzled out. Shortly afterwards, Langenthal made it 1:3 (30th). Still, it wasn’t exciting in front of around 200 fans. Given the possibilities, the Zug team should have won by double digits.

What is remarkable is the fact that Annic Büchi, a Zug defender, has once again proven herself as an offensive force. The 19-year-olds scored twice. The total of three goals now equals her personal best in the top league. In 2021/22 and 2022/23 she was successful twice for the Thurgau Ladies (now HC Davos).

They said after the match: “We played a good game and were able to put a lot of pressure on the front line.” Unfortunately, not all the pucks fell in. » In essence, it was a training session: “It was an ideal game to improve our game with the disc.”

After eight rounds, the Zugers are back at the top of the Women’s League table. These are good prospects for next weekend’s European Cup final tournament in the Bossard Arena. The Zug women will play in the semi-finals against MAC Budapest on Saturday from 4.30 p.m. Speaking of which: The Zug ice stadium welcomed 1,015 spectators against the ZSC Lions on Saturday – the second largest crowd at an EVZ women’s home championship game.
