Winners of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences announced

Watch live as the winner of this year’s Nobel Prize in Economics, officially known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, will be announced on Monday, October 14th.

Each Nobel Prize is worth 11 million Swedish kroner (approximately $1.1 million). It can be shared by up to three people.

The Economics Prize was established in 1968 by the Swedish Central Bank and is younger than the other Nobel Prizes, which have been awarded since 1901.

The Nobel Prizes were established in 1895 by the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite.

First awarded in 1901, they are given to those who have conferred the greatest benefit on humanity during the past year.

Last year’s winner was Harvard economic historian Claudia Goldin for her work uncovering the causes of deep-rooted wage and labor market inequality between men and women.
