CAF launches investigation into Super Eagles airport misdemeanor in Libya • Okay.ng

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued an official statement regarding the recent delays and mistreatment Nigeria national football team at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya.

The Super Eagles, along with their officials, were stuck at the airport for over 15 hours without access to food, water or internet.

The Nigerian team traveled to Libya for this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification.originally planned for Tuesdaybut the game has now been canceled following the ordeal.

The players and staff have now left Libya and will no longer take part in the game.

CAF expressed concern about the incident and referred the matter to CAF Disciplinary Council for further investigation.

In a statement released on MondayCAF confirmed that it had been in contact with both of them Libyan and Nigerian authorities after I found out about the situation.

“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after being informed that the Nigeria national football team (“Super Eagles”) and its technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours “They were allegedly arrested by instructed the Libyan authorities to land at the airport,” the statement said.

CAF stressed that the Disciplinary Board will investigate the situation to determine whether there have been any violations of CAF statutes and regulations and to ensure that appropriate action is taken.

“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Committee for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those found to have violated the CAF statutes and regulations,” CAF added.

The incident sparked outrage among football fans and officials. Many criticized the handling of the Nigerian team’s arrival in Libya. Calls for accountability and a thorough investigation are growing as the CAF disciplinary committee begins reviewing the case.

The Super Eagles have now safely departed Libya and it remains unclear how this incident will impact future AFCON qualifiers.
