NFL: Cowboys suffer historic home games

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys are still not really getting going in the new season. The five-time Super Bowl champion suffered a cracking 9:47 in the sixth round of the National Football League (NFL) against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. With the third defeat in the sixth game, coach Mike McCarthy’s team involuntarily wrote history: in the 35-year era of owner Jerry Jones, Dallas had never lost so heavily in front of their home crowd.

Despite the mixed start to the season, head coach McCarthy is not up for discussion with the Texans. “I haven’t even considered that,” said club owner Jones, clearly rejecting a change of coach.

While the Cowboys continue to stumble, the Lions put on a convincing performance on both offense and defense. Former quarterback and TV expert Tom Brady declared the Lions the strongest team, ahead of the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings. “This is the most balanced offensively and defensively team in the league,” said the most successful NFL professional in history.

Injury dampens Lions joy

The Lions still had to accept a bitter setback with their fourth win in the fifth game. Defender Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious shin injury and is unlikely to play again this season.

Third victory for Raimann

There was a sense of success for the Austrian Bernhard Raimann with the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Shane Steichen’s team celebrated their third win of the season in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans with 20:17. Raimann once again had the back of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who played in place of the injured Anthony Richardson. With a 3:3 record, the Colts secured second place in the AFC South Division. The 39-year-old Flacco threw two touchdown passes to Josh Downs and Michael Pittman, but also made a bad pass to the opponent.

The “Indys” division rival Houston Texans achieved their fifth victory, dispatching the New England Patriots 41:21 and now leading the AFC South with 5:1. The Baltimore Ravens won the top game against the Washington Commanders 30:23. In London, the Chicago Bears clearly defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 35:16 at Tottenham Stadium.
