The alternative would have been to use Werner Harrer, a trained field player who occasionally guards the goal in the reserves.

Vancura, who was not available for the NÖN, conceded a direct corner kick, but the official still praised the emergency goalie very much: “He was a safe support and also fended off a one-on-one situation.” There you have it “You saw that he knows how to move.”

Curiously, the Fallbach goalie was two years older than the 45-year-old Vancura, but he is still regularly in the reserves: Markus Unden, who already had a short appearance against Asparn, looked after the goal for 90 minutes. “He’s always training and standing there in goal and is also quite fit,” says coach Peter Schütt.
