Huntsville police correct death toll in weekend double shooting; 1 killed, another critical

One person was killed, not two as Huntsville police originally reported, in a double shooting Saturday night, the department said Monday.

Damien Obrien Manning, 22, was found with a gunshot wound at a gas station at 3310 Meridian St. around 10 pm Saturday, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around the same time, police were told a second gunshot victim arrived at Huntsville Hospital via private vehicle.

That victim was in critical condition, police said.

The department’s major crimes unit was investigating several leads Monday but believes several people fired shots from opposing sides of the gas station’s parking lot.

The incident remained under investigation Monday.

Anyone with information about the double shooting was asked to call Huntsville police Investigator Matthew Edger at 256-427-7247.

Tips may also be given anonymously by calling 256-532-7463 or submit a tip to Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers at 53-CRIME.
