This is intended to simplify app downloads in the Google Play Store

The Google Play Store is not the only marketplace for installing Android apps, but it is the most successful. This is not least because it comes standard and pre-activated on every Android smartphone. Google will not let this advantage be taken away from them.

Google will improve the user experience in the Play Store

In this respect, it is only logical that the app store operator is interested in continually improving the user experience. And there is a problem. Google recommends that app developers provide detailed and comprehensive information about their apps. This means that users should receive as much information as possible before downloading. That’s an advantage.

The downside, however, is that this makes the list of information so long that the Install button is no longer visible. Users also have to scroll all the way back up to get to the important buttons. Everyone in marketing knows that the so-called call-to-action must remain in the field of vision if possible.

Looking into the code shows new function

Android Authority has now discovered a function in the code of the Google Play Store v43.1.19 that anchors the install button in the top of the app view so that it always remains visible. They shared the following video:

This shows that in a future update to the Google Play Store, a header could remain displayed at the top of the screen while users scroll through the information.

Call to action always visible

This new header contains several important details, such as the app icon and name of the app, the developer name, the average rating in the Play Store, and whether the app contains ads. Next to it you will find the important “Install” button, as well as a drop-down menu with which devices other than the one currently used for installation can be selected. The same applies if the app is already installed. Then the “Update” button remains visible at all times.

This is convenient for users and can improve the conversion rate for developers. When and whether Google will actually activate the function remains to be seen. There are often experimental things in the code of apps that never see the light of day.
