Social Security benefits are expected to increase by 2.5% by 2025

Social Security recipients will receive a 2.5% increase in their monthly checks in 2025. Analysts had forecast a 2.5% increase in 2025, lower than increases in the previous two years and reflecting a moderation in inflation. Recipients received a 3.2% increase in their benefits in 2024, following a historically high benefit increase of 8.7% in 2023 caused by record inflation in 40 years.

WASHINGTON – Some Social Security recipients will receive an additional check in November because the payment schedule is set for the last two months of the year.

Those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), monthly payments for people with disabilities and older adults who have little or no income or resources, are typically paid on the 1st of the month.

However, if the date falls on a weekend or public holiday – as is the case on Sunday, December 1st – the administration pays early.

In this case, SSI recipients will receive their December payment on Friday, November 29th.

  • SSA beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997: October 3
  • Birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month: October 9th (second Wednesday of the month)
  • Birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month: Oct. 16 (third Wednesday of the month).
  • Birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month: October 23rd (fourth Wednesday of the month)

How to Report a Missing Social Security Payment

Those who don’t receive their electronic payment on the scheduled date should first contact their bank or financial institution, according to the Social Security Administration – which says there “may be a delay in the delivery of your payment.”

Anyone who still needs to report a late, missing or stolen Social Security payment should call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact your local Social Security office.

“We will review the case and when the payment is due, we will replace it,” the administration said says on its website.
