What’s the story?

YouTube is introducing a number of new features to improve user experience. These include improved playback speed controls, collaborative playlist tools and a sleep timer.

The new playback controls allow you to adjust the speed in 0.05 increments instead of the previous 0.25 increments.

However, the maximum speed when watching videos still remains at 2x speed.

YouTube improves collaboration with playlists

The video sharing platform is also expanding its playlist features.

Now users can create collaborative playlists by sharing a link or scanning a QR code – a feature coming to TVs soon.

Later this year, YouTube plans to launch a voting system for videos added to playlists. This could provide users with an interactive way to rate videos or decide what to watch next.

How do I set the sleep timer?

YouTube is also adding a sleep timer feature, which is particularly useful for those who watch videos on their phones before bed.

The function can pause videos after a certain period of time, which can be selected between 10 minutes and an hour. You can even set the timer to stop playback at the end of a video.

The sleep timer was first tested on a trial basis for premium subscribers earlier this year and is now available to all mobile users.
