Fire victim in stable condition after explosion at Long Beach home caught on video; The GoFundMe raises over $54,000

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) — A man is now in stable condition and continues to recover after he was injured in a massive explosion at a Long Beach home last week.

On the morning of October 7th, an apartment unit, also known as an ADU, exploded on a residential property in Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. at a property on West 28th Street and Gale Avenue.

“I wanted to share an update on my husband and Manny’s condition,” Sunday said in a statement on GoFundMe.com. “I am relieved to report that he is stable in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is on the road to recovery following surgery. Your support has meant so much to us during this challenging time and we greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”

As of Tuesday morning, the online fundraiser had raised more than $54,000.

Officials said the explosion came from the ADU, which is located on the property behind the main house.

At least one person was injured after an apartment unit, also known as an ADU, exploded on a residential property in Long Beach. A surveillance camera across the street captured the moment of the explosion.

After the explosion, several small fires broke out at the scene, but they were quickly extinguished by firefighters, Jake Heflin, a spokesman for the Long Beach Fire Department, said last week.

Yulissa Gutierrez, who lives about four houses from the scene of the accident, said the explosion felt like an earthquake.

“We just heard a loud explosion, a very loud noise. It felt like an earthquake, except we peered out the window and saw many things falling from the air to the ground. “It was like parts of the house,” Gutierrez described.
