Waterville, Maine, shooting under investigation – NECN

State and local police are investigating a deadly shooting in Waterville, Maine, Tuesday morning that led to two local school districts temporarily locking down their buildings.

The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highwood Street, and state police said an adult male died.

Detectives from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit are currently interviewing witnesses and crime scene technicians are still investigating the crime scene.

State police said there is no danger to the public and are expected to release more details later Tuesday afternoon.

According to News Center Maine, the shootings led to two area school districts — Waterville Public Schools and MSAD 49 in Fairfield — going into lockdown Tuesday morning, meaning no one was allowed to leave or enter the schools. Normal operations have now resumed in both districts.
