Spotify wants to offer “music videos” to more people with a quick transition

Spotify is expanding the availability of its Music Videos beta program to more people. The music streaming platform allows users to quickly switch between audio and multimedia.

Spotify brings music videos to more people, but not in the US

Spotify introduced music videos earlier this year. Although this feature is still in beta, it allows Spotify Premium subscribers to access multimedia content from several popular artists.

Spotify has confirmed that it is expanding music videos and making them accessible to many more people. Originally this feature was only available for 12 markets. Spotify says it will offer music videos in 85 additional markets. This means Spotify Premium subscribers will have access to music videos in 97 markets.

Strangely, music videos on Spotify are not accessible to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US. However, Spotify spokeswoman Brittany Le Roy said the platform is working on offering this feature to US residents.

“As with all of our features, availability may vary by market and tier. Music videos on Spotify are still in beta and we look forward to making them available to even more users in additional markets, including the US, in the future.”

Spotify allows users to quickly switch between audio and video

The Music Videos feature “begins rolling out today in new markets with a limited catalog of music videos – and will continue to roll out over the next few weeks,” Spotify said in a press release.

Premium subscribers can check if music videos are live in their location by looking for the “Go to Video” button on supported songs. Spotify essentially adds the ability to quickly switch between audio tracks and videos using the new switcher.

Needless to say, not the entire Spotify music catalog contains music videos. Therefore, Spotify adds indicators to tracks to show whether a music video is available.

With music videos, Spotify essentially takes over a function from YouTube Music. Using Google’s own platform, subscribers can easily switch between music videos and audio-only streams.
