Mega concert summer with Adele and Coldplay in Munich: Hotels report new guest record – Munich

Adele’s concert series at the exhibition center in Riem and the performances by Coldplay in the Olympic Stadium were probably the main reasons for the Munich hotel industry’s record results this August: a total of 2.1 million overnight stays were registered during this period – this is the highest number in a month since corresponding figures were recorded in 1912.

This number has increased by 19 percent compared to August of the previous year, as the city administration also reports. It is probably no coincidence that the British superstars have attracted guests from Great Britain: They are high in the ranking with 98,000 overnight stays. This corresponds to an increase of 84 percent.

Only visitors from the USA went to rest in a Munich accommodation facility more frequently in August – a total of 120,000 times, which corresponds to an increase of 34 percent. Next in line are the Dutch with 73,000 overnight stays (plus 100 percent), followed by Scandinavians with 53,000 hotel bookings (plus 148 percent).

For Munich economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU), who was primarily committed to the realization of the Adele concerts, the plan worked: the concert summer brought the city into the international spotlight. “The resulting advertising effects contribute to Munich as a destination as a special place for major cultural and exclusive events.” But the people of Munich were also winners this summer and benefited from the atmosphere.
