“Steve Clarke has a plan and it’s working” – your thoughts on Scotland’s draw with Portugal

“Steve Clarke has a plan and it’s working” – your thoughts on Scotland’s draw with Portugal

We asked for your thoughts on Scotland’s 0-0 draw with Portugal.

This is what some of you said:

Ricky: They all deserve man of the match, let’s take this positive performance into the last two games and collect a few more points. Well played.

Jim: Another great combat achievement. Scotland probably had the better chances to score. Steve Clarke has them all singing to the same tune and when you consider how many talented players are out injured and how much new blood is coming through, everything looks promising for the future.

Grant: Tenacious, clever performance against a superior team, but at the end we were tired and ragged. Billy Gilmour is invisible in the second half but others have done some deep work but at this level we are miles away.

Euan: I’m pretty happy with this international window. The most important thing in this Nations League season was the development of an alternative style of play against top opponents. We were too reliant on a back three and were in dents when we didn’t have the overlap of Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson. Every game we’ve played with the four has, in my eyes, meant progress and that’s what we want. Clarke and the team have a plan and it’s working. This will make us much more adaptable in the future. Context is crucial and I am confident we will be stronger in World Cup qualifying.

Grant: Terrible as always, best player was Craig Gordon. We kept giving the ball away, starting from the back and then giving the ball away and couldn’t string two passes together.

Ali: Well done Scotland, really tough performance. The national team is currently playing at a very high level, with only around eight players from the European Championship qualifiers fit and in the squad, but the new boys showed Scotland’s growing squad strength. Well done, boys, and well done, Clarke. They are starting to show that we deserve to be at the top.

George: Portugal are a top-class team, so a draw is a good result, especially given our absence from the squad. He was also unlucky in the last two games, losing both games by just one goal. Keep it up, Clarke and the team.
