Houston shooting: Off-duty officers find man dead, another in hospital

HOUSTON – Harris County officials are investigating a fatal shooting outside an apartment complex that left one man found dead and another hospitalized.

An off-duty police officer working security in the 15100 block of Ella Boulevard found a man in his mid-to-late 20s lying on the sidewalk who appeared to have been shot. When they arrived, he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Near the body, officers found three bullet casings and what appeared to be a firearm.

During their investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage from the complex that indicated a second man, possibly in his late 20s to early 30s, was also the target of the shooting. Authorities followed a blood trail that led to another apartment and confirmed that the second man drove to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Officers are currently questioning him at the hospital.

The footage also showed two other men fleeing the scene in a dark vehicle.

Authorities continue to review surveillance footage for additional clues.
