A man suffered potentially life-changing injuries following the shooting in Garvagh

A man has suffered potentially life-changing injuries following a shooting in Londonderry County, police say.

Two victims were attacked in the incident at a house in the Mettican Road area of ​​Garvagh just before 9pm on Tuesday.

A PSNI spokesman said investigators were investigating a report of a serious burglary.

The spokesman added: “It was reported that two men were attacked at the property by several suspects wearing balaclavas.

“One victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his arms and legs.

“The two injured people were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

“The shooting victim has serious and potentially life-changing injuries.

“Our inquiries are ongoing and we appeal to anyone with information that could help us, or who may notice anything suspicious, to call 101 quoting reference number 1668 of 10/15/24.”

SDLP MP Cara Hunter said the attack was “incredibly scary”.

She added: “Two men were left in hospital after being attacked by masked men during a suspected burglary. One suffered serious and potentially life-changing injuries.

“That must have been a terrible experience.

“The use of a weapon in this incident is extremely concerning and will shock people in this area.

“My thoughts are with the victims, who I hope make a full and speedy recovery.”

Ms Hunter added: “I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact police.

“This dangerous weapon must be found and removed from circulation before anyone else is hurt and those behind this violent attack are caught and brought to justice.”
