Portland man arrested and charged in shooting death of teenager on Forest Avenue

A Portland man is charged with attempted murder and assault for allegedly shooting a teenager on Forest Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Dominic Moncada-Sanchez, 19, was arrested late Tuesday night in South Portland, less than 24 hours after he allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old at a Portland apartment complex.

Moncada-Sanchez is charged with aggravated attempted murder, aggravated assault and violation of prison conditions. After his arrest, he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Police responded to a report of shots fired around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday at the Meadowbrook Apartments complex at 1390 Forest Ave. were fired, police department spokesman Brad Nadeau said in a statement. There, police found a 17-year-old who had suffered a gunshot wound.

The teen was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition, Nadeau said.

Police did not identify the teenager or his hometown and provided few details about the circumstances of the shooting.
