After star receiver Davante Adams was traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday, many wondered whether the Las Vegas Raiders would embark on a complete rebuild that could also result in star defensive end Maxx Crosby being released.

However, Raiders owner Mark Davis quickly put an end to that speculation, telling reporters on Tuesday that Crosby wasn’t going anywhere.

“It’s unfortunate today, but there’s so much outside talk that’s not true,” Davis said, according to Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed of The Athletic. “It doesn’t come from any source. It comes from nothing. My basic thing is to never respond to any of these things because then you get trapped in this black hole. It just doesn’t happen.”

Crosby would be one of the most coveted players on the trade market if made available by the Raiders before the Nov. 5 deadline, and sending him would likely provide a significant return for a team in need of future assets.

However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier this week that even a deal involving multiple first-round picks wouldn’t be enough for Las Vegas to trade the face of its franchise.

“I think there may have been a team at the beginning of the year that asked the team about Maxx Crosby and maybe gave an A,” Schefter said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “I think they said, ‘Yeah, you’re starting with multiple A’s against this guy, and even then we wouldn’t even consider it.'”

Crosby has been selected to the Pro Bowl each of the last three years and is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. He is tied for fifth in the league with 5.5 sacks this season. Earlier this month, he made it clear that despite the trade rumors, he had no desire to leave his home in Las Vegas.

“You know where I want to be,” Crosby said via Paul Gutierrez from ESPN. “Do you think I want to be somewhere else?” No. I have this shit tattooed on my body. I don’t want to go anywhere…it’s just fun. There are a lot of people who have a… a lot to say when they really don’t know what’s going on.

Still, trading Adams means the Raiders know they likely won’t be competing for a playoff spot this year. Crosby will remain the best player on a lackluster team as Las Vegas focuses on competing for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
