New theft protection

Smartphone theft is apparently still a very big issue, because Google is making it the first hook of Android 15, has already presented these innovations separately several times in the last few months and is now rolling it out to many users. Of course, a software function cannot prevent the theft of the device, but you can make an important contribution to ensuring that the number of thefts drops significantly very soon. For the simple reason that the devices are useless for thieves and can be tracked down.

The new theft protection is intended to ensure that the smartphone locks itself immediately after theft – within seconds. The algorithms notice the theft and become active, locking the smartphone even when it goes offline and the feature also enables subsequent locking remotely.

Hide private apps

The new Android Private Space is a kind of receptacle for apps that you want to hide. Any apps can be stored in it and as soon as the lid is put on (=locked), they are blocked from unauthorized access. The app does not appear in the drawer, nor in the launcher, cannot be started without prior approval and does not send any notifications. Only when the mode is deactivated will the app be available again as usual and also catch up on all notifications.

New Android taskbar

On tablets and foldable smartphones, Android now has a taskbar that is always visible if desired and can float over the apps. The taskbar allows you to quickly switch between apps, call up additional apps and merge two apps (see also the following point). It’s another borrowing from the Android desktop mode designed for computers.

Pair Android apps

Android apps can now be linked together so that they can be started together. Both logos appear next to each other in the app icon and are accessed automatically in a split screen.

Further innovations

• Low Light Boost and in-app camera controls now work better in low light conditions. And third-party apps get better camera controls, like B. more precise flash control.
• Mobile carrier messaging apps can use satellite connectivity to send and receive messages without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
• Apps that use passkeys for authentication now let you log in with a single tap.
