Voters will decide who becomes Indiana’s next attorney general in the upcoming Nov. 5 general election: Republican incumbent Todd Rokita or Democratic challenger Destiny Wells.

Here’s what you should know about the candidates.

Get to know the AG candidates

Todd Rokita: The Republican incumbent was first elected to the attorney general’s office in 2020. He has had a long political career in Indiana, serving as Indiana Secretary of State from 2002 to 2010 and as U.S. Representative for Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District until 2019.

He ran unopposed in this year’s primary election and received the support of former President Donald Trump. Rokita says his values ​​include “working to stop the woke ideology that targets children in the classroom” and “protecting our constitutional rights and freedoms.”

AG candidate profile: Two decades in public life have made Todd Rokita a fighter. But it’s not without costs.

Fountain of Destiny: The Democratic candidate ran unsuccessfully for secretary of state in 2022, but won a contested election at the Democratic convention against Beth White to challenge Rokita for attorney general.

Wells is a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves and a former deputy attorney general for the state of Indiana. She says her goals are to “restore the integrity” of the office, protect employee rights and protect medical privacy.

Wells was endorsed at the convention by two prominent Democrats, state Sen. Andrea Hunley and Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun. Hunley said Wells shares a “strategic vision for the future of the Indiana Democratic Party.”
