The manufacturer Swytch is offering a new kit with which virtually any conventional bicycle can be converted into an electric bicycle. The battery pack can be easily removed, making it easy to use the electric motor in any situation.

We have already reported several times about the manufacturer Swytch, which now offers a new conversion kit with the Max+. The functional principle has not changed much compared to the conventional generations; it is still a retrofittable hub motor. Users can choose between a front and rear motor, whereby the two motors do not differ in terms of rated continuous power and torque – the rated continuous power is limited to 250 watts due to regulatory requirements, and the torque is 40 Nm. It should still be possible to use it with circuits.

The Swytch Max+ is offered in two versions. The battery version Max+ weighs 3.6 kilograms and is said to last up to 64 kilometers, while the Max++ version is specified with a range of almost 97 kilometers – and weighs only 100 grams more. The capacities are given as 370 and 280 Wh, the system is waterproof over IPX6 and should also be compatible with different types of brakes. There is also a thru axle option.

The installation is not quite as easy as with friction-based systems, but it can probably also be done by a user who is not particularly skilled in manual work. Ultimately, the wheel has to be replaced, the battery installed and the pedal sensor attached – but a pedal sensor is already integrated into the rear wheel motor. The system is currently offered at a price of at least 469 euros. Delivery is not scheduled to take place until July 2024; delivery is expected to take place in January, at sometimes extreme surcharges.
