After some unexpected defeats, Iga Swiatek gets support from an experienced coach. The Polish woman is now working with the Belgian Wim Fissette. The 44-year-old led Angelique Kerber to Wimbledon victory in 2018, and she also trained Grand Slam champions Kim Clijsters, Wiktoria Asarenka, Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka.

“He seems to have a great attitude, vision and great experience at the highest level of tennis,” Swiatek wrote on social media on Thursday. She is currently preparing for the season finale of the best eight players in Riyadh/Saudi Arabia (November 3rd to 10th), but her sights go beyond that.

Swiatek is only just ahead of Aryna Sabalenka in the WTA rankings. After a disappointing summer in which the five-time Grand Slam winner only achieved Olympic bronze at her favorite facility in Roland Garros, Swiatek parted ways with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, who had accompanied her for three years. Most recently she skipped the tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan “for personal reasons”. Her last triumph was four months ago: at the beginning of June, Swiatek won the French Open for the fourth time.
