A world of video games opens up in the epic NYCC poster of “Secret Level.” [Exclusive]

New York Comic-Con begins today, but the biggest shows on Prime Video won’t announce their presence until later this weekend. Amazon’s streaming platform kicks off tomorrow, October 18th, with a panel about Cross, the new thing Aldis Hodge-led series based on James PattersonBestselling novels. Saturday October 19th is dedicated to the highly anticipated new animated video game anthology series Secret level with a panel set to explore the various short stories contained within with the help of the author Tim Miller and executive producer Dave Wilson. Ahead of the show, Collider is pleased to exclusively release the show’s official poster, inviting viewers to unlock a world of video games on December 10th.

A surprising announcement from this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live: Secret level is a unique anthology series intended as a love letter to games and gamers of all time. It consists of 15 individual segments that bring popular titles to life God of war To Mega man and even Dungeons & Dragons. All of the short stories are original stories set in the worlds of the games and appear to follow a similar formula to Miller’s acclaimed Netflix anthology series. Love, death and robots. The creator himself has even previously described the project as “Love, Death & Video Games,” conceived of it as a showcase for the coolest elements gaming has to offer by leveraging the power of the Unreal Engine.

Miller’s Blur Studio banner has teamed up with Amazon MGM to produce the video game anthology. Adapting some of gaming’s most popular IPs is a perfect fit for Blur, as the production company has been providing CGI effects since 1998, working on everything from the PlayStation 2 era Grand Theft Auto games too War equipment And Call of duty. Their efforts can also be seen in the trilogy of Sonic the Hedgehog films and theirs Idris Elba-led spin-off, ankle. None of the cast has been officially announced for the series yet, but that could happen soon as the NYCC panel is just around the corner and there are only a few months left until the release.

How were the games chosen for Secret Level?

The list of games for Secret level contains a strong mix of triple-A, indie and tabletop gaming titles from many eras. The focus has even been on expanding horizons with games popular outside the US, such as the hugely successful Honor of kings from China’s Tencent Games. In an interview with Miller before NYCC, Collider’s Steve Weintraub asked the author about the process of selecting titles for the anthology, as there were so many popular options to choose from and companies to contact. He revealed the final lineup is primarily a mix of games that the team was targeting and companies that were actually willing to share their intellectual propertyalthough ultimately there were many reasons why the squad is the way it is:

“We definitely had a targeted group of games that we all wanted for different reasons. These are all the reasons you would choose too. There are those that excite us because we played them as children; There are games that we’re excited about because we’ve seen information about them and they’re coming out and we’re excited to play them. There are many reasons why one might be involved, and some of those reasons can apply to several, but they can all have different reasons. Then you get to the dance, and this is what you have to do. Dance with the girls who are willing to get on the dance floor with you, right? We always knew it would be a mix because a lot of the people who would be most interested would be people who had a game that they were ready to sell and wanted to advertise that they had a new game had. So we always knew it would be a mix of well-known content, but also wanted to extend that reach to new games that were coming out.”
