Three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams’ tenure with the Tennessee Titans didn’t last long.

Adams’ agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the 29-year-old was released on Thursday.

Schefter noted that Adams requested his release from the Titans, who are off to a 1-4 start this season.

The Titans signed Adams to a one-year contract in July for the veteran minimum salary of $1.125 million. He became a free agent in March when the Seattle Seahawks released him, two years before the expiration of a four-year, $70 million extension signed before the start of the 2021 season.

Adams told reporters after signing with the Titans that one of the reasons he was released by the Seahawks was because they asked him to move from safety to linebacker, which he didn’t want to do.

Injuries have derailed Adams after a great start to his career. He was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and immediately made the roster as a rookie. The LSU graduate was selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team three consecutive times from 2018 to 2020, including first team selection in 2019.

The Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks before the 2020 season in a package that included two first-round draft picks.

Adams missed at least four games in each of his four seasons with the Seahawks. He played a total of 10 games in his final two years for the club.

Given Adams’ ongoing injury concerns, it could be some time before he receives an offer from another club. He may also choose to be selective if he wants to wait for a playoff contender who may need stretch run help in the secondary to give him a chance.
