Patrick Franziska has already secured his first precious metal at the European Table Tennis Championships in Austria. Together with Annett Kaufmann, the Bensheimer is in the semi-finals of the mixed competition and has thus secured bronze.

Patrick Franziska from Bensheim secured his first medal at the European Championships in Linz. Together with Annett Kaufmann, who is only 18 years old, the South Hessian reached the semi-finals of the mixed competition on Thursday.

Within four hours, the two first defeated the Romanian duo Bernadette Szoczs/Ovidiu Ionescu in 3-1 sets and then also defeated Liam Pitchford and Anna Hursey from Great Britain 3-0. The semi-final opponents on Friday (from 12.30 p.m.) are Sofia Polcanova and Robert Gardos from Austria.

Already half a dozen double medals

Third place is not specifically contested at the World and European Table Tennis Championships. The losers of the semi-finals also both receive bronze. The final begins on Friday evening at 9 p.m.

For the twelfth in the world rankings, Franziska is already the sixth World Cup or European Championship medal in doubles and mixed doubles. Kaufmann became known this year for her strong performances at the Olympic Games in Paris. The multiple European junior champion then moved to SV DJK Kolbermoor in the Bundesliga.
