Maine State Police release after report reviewing Lewiston tragedy

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – It’s been nearly a year since the mass shooting in Lewiston left 18 people dead and more injured.

The Maine State Police released the independent review of their AAR, or After Action Review, of the Lewiston tragedy.

The New England State Police Administrators Conference provided feedback.

Maine State Police Col. William Ross requested the review on Sept. 6 of this year.

Here are some key findings as they recommended the following.

  • Incorporating active shooter training for the Maine State Police.
  • Develop crime scene protocols for MCIs.
  • Train supervisors to recognize signs of psychological trauma in employees.
  • Develop plans for a secondary command post location.
  • Increase staffing of the PIO office.
  • Develop a mass casualty incident plan and review and revise mutual aid protocols.

These are not all of the recommendations, but a full report on them and the Maine State Police’s responses can be found in the gallery above.
