Gurpatwant Singh Pannu: US charges ex-India agents over assassination attempt on Sikh separatists

The charge sheet describes Yadav as a “citizen and resident of India.” He was also referred to as Vikas and Amanat.

It said he was part of the Indian government’s Cabinet Secretariat, which oversees the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) – the country’s top intelligence agency. RAW falls under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister (PMO).

The indictment further states that Yadav described his position as a “senior field officer” with responsibilities in the areas of “security management” and “intelligence.”

He added that he also served in India’s paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and received training in “combat vehicles and weapons.”

The US State Department said it was satisfied with India’s cooperation in the investigation into the alleged assassination attempt.

Meanwhile, India’s relationship with Canada continues to deteriorate as both Delhi and Ottawa fire a volley of accusations against each other.

Mr. Jaiswal said on Thursday that India had repeatedly asked Canada to extradite people believed to be part of jailed Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s group but had received no response.

Canadian police have alleged that Indian government agents used members of Bishnoi’s gang to commit “murder, extortion and violence” and target supporters of the pro-Khalistan movement. India has rejected the claim saying Canada has not provided any evidence to support it.

India’s allegations came in response to Mr. Trudeau’s claims that India had made a “massive mistake” if it was behind the death of a Sikh separatist leader on Canadian soil.
