Columbus father and son are charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Hilltop teenager

A father and his teenage son have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in Columbus’ Hilltop neighborhood earlier this month.

Robert A. Clark II, 34, and his son Robert Clark III, 15, of the Milo-Grogan neighborhood of Columbus, have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Carnal Mixon. The younger Clark has been charged with murder in juvenile court and is being held at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center while prosecutors decide whether to charge him as an adult.

His father has been charged with obstruction of justice and is being held at the Franklin County Jail.

Columbus police received a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Lechner Avenue in the Hilltop neighborhood just before 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 4, The Dispatch previously reported. Responding officers discovered Mixon was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Columbus Fire Department paramedics transported Mixon in critical condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center downtown, where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m

According to an affidavit filed by Columbus police homicide detectives, police went to Clark’s home on East 4th Avenue in Milo-Grogan Thursday afternoon to search for the younger Clark. Officers arrested him and discovered the elder Clark was in the house with him.

Investigators said in the affidavit that the elder Clark fled with the younger Clark after the son fatally shot Mixon on Oct. 4 and harbored him from authorities.

The elder Clark’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.
