Georgia at Texas tips, odds, how to watch: Top-5 showdown could change playoff race

The biggest game on the college football schedule this week is No. 1 Texas taking on No. 5 Georgia on Saturday night in Austin. The Longhorns enter the game with more than just a field goal and are looking to get their biggest statement win of the season.

Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers returned to the lineup last week against Oklahoma and was clearly still shaking off some rust, throwing an interception and managing just 199 yards through the air. None of that mattered, however, as Texas’ running game and defense took over.

Ewers will have a much tougher challenge this week against Georgia. Although the Bulldogs’ defense hasn’t been as dominant as in years past, they still come into the game and only allow 17.2 points per game. They were a little vulnerable against the pass at times, allowing over 192 yards per game and recording just 11 sacks and just three interceptions in the first six games. It’s a young, talented defense that is still finding its way.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will also face a tough challenge this week as he faces a road trip against a Longhorns defense that is allowing just 6.3 points per game, by far the lowest average in the country. They are one of two teams that allow fewer than 10 points per game (Army).

While there might be some questions about the competitive level of the Texas defense, they have already played against two ranked opponents (Michigan and Oklahoma) and won by a combined score of 65-15. This includes the fact that the Sooners were only allowed three points last week.
