WATCH LIVE: King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive at Sydney Airport to begin a five-day royal tour of Australia

King Charles and Queen Camilla have landed at Sydney Airport to begin their first trip to Australia since ascending the throne.

The King and Queen’s flight was delayed due to weather and circled Sydney Airport before making a final descent.

Charles and Camilla will spend five days in Australia to open the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, six years after their last visit in 2018.

Her visit marks the first royal tour of Australia by a reigning monarch since Queen Elizabeth II, who visited Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth in 2011, and the first by a new monarch since 1954.

In a statement on their official X account ahead of their arrival, the King and Queen said they were “really looking forward to arriving in Australia.”

“Ahead of our first visit to Australia as King and Queen, we are excited to return to this beautiful country to celebrate the exceptionally rich cultures and communities that make it so special. See you there!” wrote the king and queen.

Charles and Camilla will visit Sydney and Canberra during the royal tour before heading to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting on Wednesday.

The King and Queen will complete a number of appointments during the tour, including a visit to the National Center of Indigenous Excellence, a community barbecue in western Sydney and a naval fleet briefing at the Sydney Opera House.

While security measures are tight for the visit, the public will have the opportunity to interact with the King and Queen at the Opera House on Tuesday.
