Dorset man jailed for sexually assaulting a child

Kerry Walters, 42, of Sturminster Newton, was convicted of both counts at Bournemouth Crown Court on October 18.

Following a detailed investigation by Dorset Police’s child abuse investigation team, Walters appeared in court and was sentenced on September 5.

The victim reported the crimes in November 2019, which are said to have taken place around four years earlier.

Walters was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and faces an extended sentence of one year.

Detective Constable Mark Walsh, from CAIT, said: “I would like to thank the victim in this case for the immense courage she has shown, firstly in coming forward to report Walters’ abusive behavior and then for the support she has received throughout the investigation and the legal proceedings.” .

“I hope their bravery will inspire others who have been victims of abuse to come forward knowing they will be supported and we will do everything in our power to ensure perpetrators receive justice for their lives actions must be held accountable.”

Dorset Police said they did not have a custody photograph of Walters.
