Designer Basic Apple Guy, purveyor of fine wallpapers for your devices, has found a way to turn a series of small background shots of Apple Park in Cupertino into fine wallpapers for Mac and iPad displays. The background recordings are included in macOS Sequoia for small-scale use in apps like FaceTime and Photo Booth and therefore had to be scaled up significantly. BAG put the wallpaper versions online on Thursday for you to download (see below).

Now you can express your admiration for Apple right on the Mac or iPad you love with Apple Park wallpapers (preferably in landscape orientation, BAG pointed out). And by the way, it wasn’t that easy to create these images. Here’s how BAG describes where the images came from and how he customized them using some “upscaling heavy voodoo”:

In macOS Sonoma, Apple added the system-wide API to add custom backgrounds in apps (FaceTime, Photo Booth, Zoom, etc.) using the camera on Mac. And in an early beta of macOS Sequoia, nine wallpapers from locations across Apple Park were bundled with this new feature. The images show several iconic locations around campus, including the Rainbow Arch, the courtyard fountain, the fitness center and the entrance to Apple Park.

Many thanks to Remo (@remo_Pr0) for finding the directory where these images are stored. But at 1920×1080 the images were good as Facetime backgrounds, but way too small for anything else. But thanks to some upscaling with strong voodoo, the files looked pretty remarkable even after increasing their size by almost 10 times over the original. As someone who has never visited Apple Park, I think these images provide a rare glimpse into the beautiful architecture and landscaping of this campus.
