Viral TikTok catches an airplane passenger cracking open a can of tuna in mid-air

A viral TikTok has sparked a debate about airline snack etiquette after a fellow middle seat passenger was filmed cracking open a can of tuna in mid-air.

TikToker Ally Jaksen was on a three-and-a-half Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage to Seattle when she caught the person next to her opening a can of tuna from Bumble Bee Seafood and eating it with Ritz crackers as an in-flight snack.

The video, which has been viewed more than 1.2 million times on TikTok, sent other users into a frenzy that a passenger at such a high altitude would eat something so fishy along with dozens of other passengers.

“Canned tuna on planes must be at the top of the list when it comes to crimes against humanity,” Jaksen jokingly captioned the video.

Some users said they said something to the passenger, while one claimed they were so “sensitive to smells that I would have released on that person.”

“I love tuna,” said another. “But this violates the rules of etiquette on so many levels.”

One commenter jokingly called for the passenger to be placed on the no-fly list “immediately.”

Someone else recounted their smelly plane snack experience, saying they were “on a flight once where someone opened a bag of boiled eggs.”

Other social media users didn’t see it as such a big deal.

“Tuna doesn’t even smell bad…” wrote one, while another said they would do the same: “I’m afraid I would do this to meet my protein goal.”

Unfortunately, eating tuna wasn’t the worst thing the passenger did on the flight, according to Jaksen, as she described the man as “a textbook type of someone you wouldn’t want to sit next to on a plane.”

She added that the passenger also ordered a Bloody Mary alongside his tuna Ritz cracker appetizers, and while she said she loves both canned fish and the tomato juice-based drink, the two together only added to the “hurt.” . smells.

Jaksen further claimed in a follow-up video that the man also had scabs on his arm that he had scratched during the flight and that were “flaking off.”

Additionally, the man snored so loudly that she could “hear it through my noise-cancelling headphones.”

The mid-air tuna eater debacle came months after another passenger sparked an angry online backlash for making a batch of sourdough on a flight from Chicago to Barcelona.

What was intended as a light-hearted content creation turned into another discussion about flight etiquette when the TikToker was criticized for failing to accommodate people with severe allergies as the air is recirculated in the cabin.
