Start of the new “Medicine Lower Bavaria” course of study

(ra) At the beginning of the winter semester, the new “Medicine Lower Bavaria” course with 110 study places started at the University of Regensburg, the second, patient-related training phase of which took place at various clinic locations in Lower Bavaria: Straubing, Deggendorf/Mainkofen, Landshut and Passau.

On the occasion of the start of the semester on Monday, the St. Elisabeth Clinic also took the opportunity to talk to students at the University of Regensburg at an information stand and to highlight its special features as an award-winning teaching hospital of the TU Munich for the new Lower Bavaria Medical Campus (MCN). In the presence of numerous guests from science, politics and partner institutions, the event marked a significant milestone for medical education in the region.

Hospital managing director Dr. Martin Baumann sees the innovative cooperation project as an important step towards future-proof healthcare and says: “We are pleased to be part of the Lower Bavaria Medical Campus and to help shape the training of future medical professionals right from their studies.” The University of Regensburg, the University of Passau as well Eight hospitals in the Deggendorf, Landshut, Straubing and Passau regions, together with other partners, bring medical studies to the region through the Lower Bavaria Medical Campus. At the end of 2027, the first students of the “Medicine Lower Bavaria” course are expected at the clinic locations for their clinical 7th to 10th semesters as well as the practical year in the 11th and 12th semesters. In the full expansion stage, around 75 students will be trained in Straubing.

The Straubing Clinic will receive five clinical professorships in the following disciplines: cardiology and angiology; orthopaedics, accident and hand surgery; ear, nose and throat medicine; Urology; Anaesthesiology, surgical intensive care medicine and pain medicine. The subjects of ear, nose and throat medicine and urology are only taught at the Straubing location. Teaching is exported from the St. Elisabeth Clinic to all other locations. Outside the regular curriculum, there is also the opportunity to deepen theoretical knowledge at the St. Elisabeth Clinic through internships and internships, invites Medical Director Prof. Dr. Norbert Weigert invites the students.

The first-year students also asked at the stand about housing options and leisure activities in Straubing. 32 modern student apartments will be built directly on the new campus building, which will be constructed in a sustainable manner. The St. Elisabeth Clinic and the university town of Straubing see themselves as two strong partners for the benefit of healthcare in the region. The city with a heart has many advantages such as affordable housing and living costs, a rich cultural offering and lots of nature with the Danube and the Bavarian Forest, which guarantee a relaxed student life.
