KJ Dell’Antonia’s best-selling book The chicken sistersselected by the Reese Witherspoon Book Club in December 2020, has become an eight-part series that premiered with the launch of Hallmark’s streamer Hallmark+.

Annie Mebane (The Goldbergs, shrinkage) serves as executive producer of the series, which is set in Kansas, as in Dell’Antonia’s novel. Generous with all of you and Southern hospitality, the show fits Hallmark’s plan perfectly.

The fictional town of Merinac in the television series contains all sorts of tropes and dynamics. There are two feuding fried chicken restaurants: Frannie’s and Mimi’s. Augusta Moore (Wendie Malick) now runs Mimi’s, but one of her daughters, Mae (Genevieve Angelson), has left to move to New York and make a new life, and the other – Amanda (Schuyler Fisk) – has the son Married to the family This belongs to Frannie – Frank Hillier Jr. (James Kot). As such, the family dynamic is a bit complicated to say the least, and Gus didn’t even stay at Amanda’s wedding, meaning Nancy Hillier (Lea Thompson) became her new mother, so to speak. Amanda and Frank have a daughter Frankie (Cassandra Sawtell). Amanda puts in a bid for “Kitchen Clash,” a series that spins reality TV food shows like the Food Network, because Frannie’s is barely making ends meet. Mimi’s could also benefit from the attention, with the winner of the battle between the two restaurants receiving prize money.
