Arrests made in Mt. Vernon, IL shooting

Police in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, have made two arrests in connection with a shooting last Saturday evening that left three people injured. The shooting occurred in the 1100 block of Lamar Street.

Police reported that 37-year-old Timothy Boyd of Mt. Vernon was arrested on charges of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, being an armed habitual offender and violating probation from the Illinois Department of Corrections. A search of Boyd last Thursday ended when he was located at a Carlyle hotel by agents from the U.S. Marshals Task Force accompanied by investigators from the Mt. Vernon Police Department.

Another person at the hotel, 38-year-old Myleika Whitelow of Centralia, Illinois, was accused of aiding and hiding a fugitive.

Mt. Vernon police said all three people injured in last Saturday’s shooting were taken to local hospitals and later transported to St. Louis for further treatment. They reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
