Start of the new school year: “There is a lack of appreciation” – Young teacher criticizes politics

Lena Petridou (name changed) has been teaching at a secondary school in the Ludwigsburg district for a year and a half. Previously as a trainee teacher, she started working there as a teacher after the summer holidays. “I was very lucky with the school, there are great teachers,” says the 28-year-old. Despite this, the time was very demanding. It was therefore particularly bitter not to have received any pay over the summer holidays. The teachers’ union GEW has been criticizing the situation for years. The traineeship in Baden-Württemberg ends before the long summer holidays, and the start as a teacher only begins afterwards.
