TSV Irnfritz remains down to earth after a good start: “For me, the goal for the season is clearly to stay in the league” – Football Lower Austria – Results, tables and goalscorers from all Lower Austria leagues.

With six points from the first three games, TSV Irnfritz is one of the positive teams in the Waldviertel first division so far. Coach Norbert Stummer’s team started with a 5:2 win over Brand-Nagelberg, but had to admit defeat to Amaliendorf in the second round with a score of 1:6, only to hit back impressively in the third round with a score of 5:3 against Nondorf. After the first few appearances, it is noticeable that the matches were high-scoring, and things seem to be going really well, especially in attack. Ligaportal took the opportunity to ask Coach Stummer to talk about the start of the season, the goals and the next opponent.

Ligaportal: Mr. Stummer, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. What is your conclusion about the start of the season?

Norbert Stummer: Actually, it was relatively good, it fit quite well.

Ligaportal: Where do you see the strengths and weaknesses of your team?

Norbert Stummer: I think the team has now understood what I want and how I tick. It is a team with a lot of character, but the weaknesses are clearly in defending, including in defence. We scored eleven goals and conceded eleven, so there is definitely room for improvement, but I think we are very good players overall. As I said, we are currently a little lacking in defence.

Ligaportal: What the fans are most interested in is: What is your goal for this season?

Norbert Stummer: For me, the clear goal for the season is to avoid relegation. Anything else would be – I would say – utopian. We have the budget of a second division team, but the team as a whole is very, very good. If I take the whole team – reserves and first team – then we are certainly relatively high up in terms of the team as a whole, but for me the clear goal for the season is to avoid relegation.

Ligaportal: Let’s look at the next opponent, what kind of task does your team face here?

Norbert Stummer: We have Waldhausen now. Their coach knows Irnfritz’s team, of course, he was the coach here for a long time, the team hasn’t changed much since then, apart from the legionnaires, who he also knows. I think he will have surprises in store for us. Waldhausen is a good team, certainly very disciplined, with very fast players up front. I think if we can consistently deliver our best performance, constantly reach our limits, we will definitely be able to annoy them. It will be a question of how we are feeling on the day, I think that the team that comes closer to its limits on that day will win the match.
